Named for the Latin word for wound — not the injury itself, but the point at which it becomes a form of self-knowledge. Crème brûlée and Vov, the Italian egg liqueur, open it warm and gilded. Jasmine and burnt caramel soften the heart. Then oxidised iron, black vanilla and leather close it, a bruise turning into armour. Sorcinelli writes about violence that is physical, verbal or digital, and about the scars that outlast the bruises — wounds acknowledged and worn as dignity rather than hidden as flaws. The darkest UNUM yet, and the most deliberate.
